Our Programs

FACF is a 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit foundation. Through our programs, we help prevent FGM and child marriage while also supporting various needs of survivors of FGM in the United States and Sierra Leone.

ADVOCACY - F A Cole Foundation (FACF) advocates for survivors and at-risk women and girls of FGM in the United States and Sierra Leone.

Prevention

Our prevention program includes the Wuyatta K. Scholarship Fund, Take Back the Power and Sanitary Napkins Campaigns as well as Read a Book a Month campaign.

CLITORAL RESTORATIVE SURGERY

This surgery, (only for survivors of FGM) restores the clitoris and (in some cases) the labia. The surgery restores confidence of the survivor. Restores pain-free sexual intercourse caused by FGM, and it removes ugly scar tissue and/or keloids. Kindly support this program (hyperlink) so FACF can send as many survivors to surgery as needed. The approximate cost for one surgery in the USA is $2000. We do not cover hotel, food, nor airfare.

THE WUYATTA K. SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Named in memory of the late Wuyatta K. who passed away on January 23, 2022 a few months before her 8th birthday. Through this fund, FACF sponsors the education of girls in Sierra Leone, West Africa by paying their tuition – including school supplies as well as providing hygiene products. Your support is greatly appreciated.

THE SANITARY NAPKINS CAMPAIGN​
This campaign started by divine instruction. F.A. Cole who is from Sierra Leone is no stranger to girls missing school during their menstrual cycle, mainly because parents cannot afford the cost of a box of sanitary napkins. Thanks to our donors and partners – Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation, we have been supplying care packages to girls in disadvantaged communities in Sierra Leone since May, 2017. To help us keep girls in school during their menstrual cycle, donations can be made here.

TRAINING FOR PREVENTION
With our partner organization, Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation (GWPF), we team train law enforcement and educators to recognize at-risk girls, and take appropriate action to protect them against FGM in the United States.

Take Back the Power Campaign
Every year since 2016 we organize and host a day’s event inviting students in Secondary Schools and Universities. Our speakers address FGM, rape, cyber bullying, education, career planning, etc. We encourage the presence of boys in our events because their voice is equally vital in the fight to eradicate FGM. We provide educational material as well as hygiene products for girls – including but not limited to sanitary napkins.

Read a Book a Month Campaign
Reading is fundamental at every age. In Sierra Leone however most children do not have access to local libraries. To help strengthen their reading skills and teach them the importance of accountability and responsibility, we introduced this campaign in December, 2023. To participate, every child will register with one of our inhouse libraries within their community which will enable them to borrow books (using their library card). To make reading fun and encourage participation, we give out prizes to those children who read more than one book a month.
